CapitalBio Corporation (CapitalBio) held a ground laying ceremony for the inception of construction of the CapitalBio Chengdu (Wenjiang) Complex at Chengdu International Health City. Dr Jing Cheng the CEO of CapitalBio, Jianping Cheng the Deputy Chancellor of Tsinghua University, municipal government leaders and other executives of CapitalBio attended the ceremony.

The CapitalBio Chengdu (Wenjiang) Complex will occupy a total of 30,000 square meters, and will comprise three major facilities: an independent clinical testing laboratory and consumer genetic testing service, a manufacturing and production facility for biochip-related instruments and biological and diagnostic reagents, and a facility to undertake advanced biomolecular research and development.

CapitalBio has previously established an independent clinical laboratory test service in Chengdu, which currently provides a spectrum of advanced and routine clinical assays including molecular diagnostic tests, biochemical analyses, pathological and microbial tests, and assays for trace elements to hospitals and clinics in the Chengdu region.
 

The present CapitalBio-Chengdu Independent Medical Laboratory facility occupies 1,500 sq meters and commenced comprehensive clinical analysis services in December 2010. Over 200 hospitals in the Chengdu region, including top tier hospitals and local clinics already use the Laboratory, which now has 150 professional staff, including pathologists, clinicians and clinical analysis technicians. The tests offered to clients involve over 600 different assays, and include NAT, microbiology, hematology, biochemistry, immunology, and pathology assays, as well as clinical and DTC genetic tests. Currently, over 10,000 tests are performed per month and in calendar year 2011 revenue from the Laboratory topped 10 million CNY. The new Chengdu Independent Medical Laboratory facility will have treble the capacity and the range of analytical tests offered will increase, with emphasis on molecular diagnostic applications for clinical practice. Our vision is to become the largest independent medical laboratory in Sichuan Province, providing a broad range of services.
